<p>Eating to build muscle is an important part of your bodybuilding program. Eating food that helps build muscle will ensure that you are not wasting all that hard work you are doing in the gym.</p>
<p>Lifting weights in the gym forced your muscles to work, but guess what? Working your muscles uses considerable energy, and energy is supplied by your food. Correct nutrition also helps heal muscle injury that often occurs while you are working out. You may not even know you have caused injury to your muscles, but your body knows, and your body needs fuel from food that helps build muscle in order to repair that muscle.</p>
<p>When looking into the types of food that helps build muscle, you probably immediately think of eating a low fat diet. That is great, but probably the most important type of foods that build muscle are foods containing high levels of protein. Foods like meat, fish, chicken, eggs, cheese and other milk products. Nuts are also a great protetin source.</p>
<p>Figuring out how much protein you should be eating can be tricky. Too much protein is bad for your health, and puts a strain on your system. But you need to eat a lot of protein and not much else for that to happen. Ask at your gym as to your daily protein requirement. It depends on your weight, and on your lean mass weight (basically the weight of all your bones and organs, minus all body fat). </p>
<p>Foods that build muscle include carbohydrates. Many uninformed people believe that all carbs should be eliminated in order to obtain a fit, lean body. Nothing could be further from the truth. So long as the carbohydrates you ingest include plenty of fibre, carbs will contribute to building muscle mass ? not body fat. Great carbohydrate based foods include rice, oatmeal, bananas and other types of fruit such as apples and pears.</p>
<p>Reducing fat in your diet is of course necessary to build bigger muscle on a body that appears lean and has a low body fat ratio. If you are focussing on what foods build muscle mass, you also need to bear in mind that it pays to reduce fat as well. Although proteins are essential (as we talked about earlier), it is really important to select proteins that are low in fat, or that you can cut the fat off. So eat your chicken without the skin, and go for lean steaks rather than more fatty cuts of meat. Opting for cottage cheese or other reduced fat cheeses, and low fat milk also helps reduce your fat intake.</p>
<p>When eating to build muscle, make sure you drink water. Liquid is important for hydration, and a dehydrated body is sluggish, and can even make you sick. This is not a recipe for obtaining the healthy, fit physique you are striving for. </p>
<p>Two litres of water a day is what most experts recommend to maintain optimal health. To drink that amount, you need to drink up to 12 glasses of water a day, which is quite a lot. So start early in the day, and space your water consumption out throughout the day. </p>
<p>Foods that build muscle are one of the two essential components to having the body of your dreams. The other component is your weight training program or other type of bodybuilding workouts that you engage in regularly. Just because you have found foods that build muscle does not mean you can start to slack off with your weight training.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong><i>Question by Alex</i>: I am on a high protein lowish carb diet to build muscle and lose fat . When should I eat my few carbs?</strong><br />
Basically I am on a high protein low carb diet to lose fat and build some muscle at the same time before I go to university. </p>
<p>Please don&#8217;t say its not possible to do both at the same time because that&#8217;s exactly what I have done for the last 6 weeks.</p>
<p> I am generally eating a high protein low carb diet. I eat about 5-6 meals a day with my main starchy carbs(usually a good portion of noodles) coming in once a day.</p>
<p>At the gym I do a weights session for about 1.5 hours focusing on 2 different muscle groups each workout day a week followed by a 5k run as fast as I can (USUALLY ABOUT 25- 30 MINS fairly intense running) </p>
<p>My diet is generally as follows.</p>
<p>Wake up- high protein low carb whey protein shake</p>
<p>+ 3 hours (main meal &#8211; high protein and HIGH carbs) 2 chicken breasts or steak with a good portion of noodles</p>
<p>+ 3 hours (just before I leave to gym) high protein low carb Whey protein shake</p>
<p>&#8212;GYM&#8212;&#8212;- WEIGHTS SESSION FOLLOWED BY CARDIO (5K RUN)</p>
<p>+  3 hours (BACK FROM GYM) Chicken, turkey, fish or steak with a small portion of rice</p>
<p>+  3 hours High protein low carb whey protein shake or some form of animal protein with homous and  with a glass of  skimmed milk</p>
<p>Sleep</p>
<p>My questions:<br />
1.Is this an ideal diet for building muscle and losing fat at the same time because it is working so far but I want to know if there are any improvements to be made.</p>
<p>2. I eat one main meal which is high protein and high carbs (chicken and noodles usually) once a day usually 3 hours before I go to the gym. I eat them at this time so the high carbs diet can fuel my workout and 5k run and so that I eat my big meal early in the day so I have time to burn it off and use the calories in it. Is this a good time to eat my main meal ( a few hours before gym) or should it be after the gym or WHEN!!!!!????</p>

and 2 chicken breasts and 2 steaks a day is alot of fat to eat. You aren&#8217;t specific on what workouts your doing. how am i supposed to know if your doing 4 heavy sets of 3 different bicep workouts or doing 500 dumbbell squats with 3 pound weights for that hour and a half?</p>
<p>im not saying it&#8217;s impossible either to lose weight and gain muscle at the same time but your sample size should be a little longer than 6 weeks. unless you literally just started working out 6 weeks ago and were extremely out of shape before, its almost impossible you made measurable losses or gains in that time.</p>
<p>giving you the benefit of the doubt that your working out with sufficient intensity you will definitely gain muscle doing this routine and diet but you might find the fat burning taper off after awhile and have to adjust your nutrition. kudos if you can do 5K in 25 minutes, you run alot faster than i can</p>
